Howard County police are investigating a 15-year-old girl's report that a man in a large, light-colored car followed her as she jogged alone in the western portion of the county.

The report came while police are checking on complaints about two men in a light-colored car stalking county children.

"We don't think it's in any way related, but we're investigating it," said Sgt. Steve Keller, a county police spokesman.

He said the girl was not injured and that the motorist never said anything to her or touched her.

The girl said she noticed a car following her as she jogged in the 15600 block of Thistle Downs near Frederick Road, police said. The driver -- described as a white male 35 or older -- got out of his car and started walking behind the girl.

When she began to run faster, the man began to run, she told police. But when she ran into a nearby driveway, the man got back in his car and drove away, police said. She reported the incident shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Sergeant Keller said the circumstances of the incident didn't seem to match those of earlier reports of two men approaching or watching children in Ellicott City.

On Jan. 12, a 9-year-old girl told police that a man in a car had approached her outside her home in the 3400 block of Font Hill Drive and asked her if she wanted a ride. Three days later, a resident of the 2900 block of Cypress Bay Court saw a man slowly driving while he watched children play.
