Thomas' last-second shot gives Southern-AA upset of Gophers

Matt Thomas made a 15-footer with 10 seconds remaining to rally host Southern-AA to a 43-42 upset of No. 13 Glen Burnie yesterday.

Southern (9-5), which was led by Scott Crandell's 17 points, had trailed by as many as 13 points before outscoring the Gophers (11-3), 13-1, in the fourth quarter.

Glen Burnie was 0-for-15 from the field in the last quarter, including 0-for-6 from three-point range.

* Southern-B 73, Walbrook 51: Johnny Hemsley scored 18 points and Marlin Wise added 16 for host and No. 1 Southern-Balto.

* St. Frances 54, Towson Catholic 37: Mark Karcher had 15

points and nine rebounds to pace host and No. 3 St. Frances (16-4). Shawn Hampton added 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocked shots for the Panthers.

* Lake Clifton 55, Mervo 48: Junior guard Michael King's team-high 16 points helped host and No. 4 Lake Clifton (12-1) defeat Mervo. Mervo, trailed just 38-36 after three quarters.

* Annapolis 63, Old Mill 43: Germaine Diggs scored 21 and had 10 rebounds for host and No. 8 Annapolis (12-2) recorded its sixth straight win by downing Old Mill (6-9). Ryan Dacey added 11 points for the Panthers.

* Loyola 85, Perry Hall 34: Mike Stuphin scored 14 and Jason Vogtman had 11 to lead 13 Loyola players who scored for the host and No. 9 Dons (13-4).

* Randallstown 70, Franklin 53: Lamont Clark scored 17 and Troy Lewis and Ryan Broden each added 14 to lead visiting and No. 12 Randallstown, which rallied from a 34-32 halftime deficit by outscoring Franklin, 20-7, in the third quarter.

* Arundel 91, Chesapeake-AA 69: Jamell Miller finished with 16, Joe Parker had 11 and host and No. 15 Arundel (9-4) raced to a 25-14 first-quarter lead and 51-31 lead at halftime.

* Aberdeen 62, Bel Air 43: Tommie Mims scored 17 to lead host and No. 17 Aberdeen (10-2).

* St. Paul's 57, Severn 56: Chris Berrier hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to lift No. 18 St. Paul's (11-1) over host Severn (7-10). Justin Singleton and Simeon Wharton each had 12 for St. Paul's.

* Hammond 48, Wilde Lake 43: Mike Bright scored 14 points to help No. 20 Hammond past host Wilde Lake.

* Fallston 81, North Harford 74: Tim Short scored 36 points to lift Fallston past visiting North Harford. Bryan Renfrow had 38 points for North Harford.
