With big blizzard now history, Pasadena gears up for activity

PASADENA CRAWLED out of a snow-induced lethargy this week. It's back to business with lots of activities and events filling the calendar.

Lake Shore Youth Baseball will register boys ages 5 to 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Shore Elementary School.

Birth certificates are required.

The cost is $45 per individual player, $15 for each additional player in the same family.

Applications for managers will also be accepted on these dates.

* Lake Shore Girls Softball will accept registrations from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. tomorrow and Feb. 3, 10 and 17 at Lake Shore Elementary.

Registration fees are $40 per player, $10 for each additional player in the same family, plus a $20 fund-raiser fee.

'Souper Saturday'

Jenkins Memorial Church in Riviera Beach is having "Souper Saturday" from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. tomorrow.

Church members will be dishing up all-you-can-eat soups, hot dogs, beverages and desserts. Sample homemade chicken noodle, turkey rice, chili, lentil, shrimp gumbo, potato, navy bean, vegetable crab, vegetable beef, 15-bean and clam chowder.

"Thanks to the community, our first Souper Saturday last year was such a success, we decided to do it again this year," said Donna Allen, church spokeswoman.

The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under age 5 eat for free.

Bingo and dinner

The Auxiliary of Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company will hold an afternoon of bingo and dinner Sunday in the Mountain Road fire hall.

Doors open at noon with dinner served from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Games begin at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $20 and include dinner and a bingo package. They will be be available at the door.

Meals are available for carryout for $6. The bingo package can be purchased separately for $14.

Proceeds will be used to purchase fire equipment.

Rescheduled raffle

Because of the blizzard, the drawing date for the Chesapeake High School Athletic Boosters truck raffle has been extended to April 30.

Stoney Creek open house

Stoney Creek Democratic Club, 8123 Fort Smallwood Road, will have an open house at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Steve Estaugh, 1st District candidate for Congress, will be the speaker.
