Outlook: Washington starts Olie Kolzig in goal tonight. It will be his second start in three games. Kolzig (3-5-1, 2.78 goals-against-average) won, 3-2, in Chicago Jan. 17. This will be his fifth career appearance against the Devils, the most he has faced any NHL team. In his four previous tries, he went 0-2-1 with a 3.22 gaa. The Caps lost to Florida, 5-4, Tuesday; New Jersey beat Los Angeles, 3-1, and is 2-1-0 on its current home stand. The Devils (20-22-4) have not been .500 since Dec. 9. C Neal Broten, benched Tuesday and fined for missing a "punishment" practice prior to the All-Star break, likely will play. LW Steve Thomas has an eight-game point-scoring streak (6 goals, 7 assists, 13 points). Linemate Bill Guerin has at least one point in seven of his last eight games for a total of 11. G Martin Brodeur has started eight games in a row. Brodeur is 6-0-1 lifetime against Washington, with one shutout and a 1.69 gaa. Caps C Mike Eagles (broken finger) is out. C Joe Juneau (flu) didn't skate yesterday and is doubtful. New Jersey reports no injuries.
