Schubert galore

January 25, 1996|By Stephen Wigler

The concert with more great music than any other this year is likely to be Saturday's "Schubertiade" at 7:30 p.m. in Friedberg Hall at the Peabody Conservatory.

That wonderful and indefatigable pianist Amy Lin, who put together last season's superb marathon of Beethoven's violin-and-piano sonatas, is now celebrating Schubert's 199th birthday with an evening of some of the composer's greatest music: The Fantasy in F Minor for piano four hands, the "Trout Quintet," "The Shepherd on the Rock" for soprano, clarinet and piano, several of the great songs and other works.

Besides Lin, the performers include soprano Jennifer Davidson, cellist Bonnie Thron, violinist Qian Zhou, violist Seljuk Kardan, pianist Piero Weiss and clarinetist Fred Jacobowitz.

Tickets for the concert, a benefit for Peabody's Preparatory division, are $20; $10 for seniors and students. For information and tickets, call the Peabody Box Office, (410) 659-8124.
