Babar on stage

The enchanting characters of Jean de Brunhoff, whose illustrated Babar books have been loved by children around the world for generations, come to the stage for the first time in a brand new adventure from Theatreworks/USA.

Though the performance is geared to children during school hours as part of a field trip program, the musical is open to anyone.

The hourlong show will be presented at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. today in the Kraushaar Auditorium at Goucher College, Dulaney Valley Road. Tickets are $8 and can be obtained from the Theatreworks Box Office. Call (212) 420-8202. For an extensive selection of scale model railroad items and magnificent operating model railroads, go to the Maryland State Fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday.

More than 600 vendors and dealers will be participating, and train layouts covering more than 4,000 square feet will be on display. There'll also be plenty of refreshments, children's activities, demonstrations and white elephant sales.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for children 6 to 12, and $10 a family. Return on Sunday and the admission is free. Call (410) 730-1036 or (410) 997-2166.
