Security guard chases, detains shoplifting suspect

A security officer at the Caldor store in Glen Burnie chased a shoplifting suspect into woods near the store Monday and held her until county police arrived.

Sean Jones, the security officer for the store in the 7300 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd., told police that he and another employee watched a woman put several bedsheets and pillow cases worth $142 into a bag about 11 a.m. and leave without paying.

Mr. Jones caught the woman near the Cromwell light rail station and held her for police.

Police charged Robin Melissa Champ, 36, of the 2400 block of Seabury Road with theft. She was being held in lieu of $896 bond at the county detention center.

Man in shopping center lot arrested on drug charges

Police arrested a Perry Hall man on drug charges Monday after officers found marijuana and the hallucinogen psilocybin in his truck parked in the lot of Cromwell Fields shopping center, authorities said.

Officers who patrol the nearby Baltimore & Annapolis Trail on bicycles were called to the shopping center about 7 p.m. to check on a truck that was parked next to the Taylor rental store, police said.

Stanley Laurence Curtain Jr., 36, of the 4300 block of Piney Park Road was charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute marijuana and psilocybin, possession of drug paraphernalia and having an open beer container. He was released on $8,000 bond.
