An armed man abducted a Columbia woman outside her home, made her drive to Lake Elkhorn, sexually assaulted her and stabbed her five times before running away Friday night, Howard County police said.

The 20-year-old victim was in serious but stable condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore yesterday, police said.

Police did not have a complete description of the suspect yesterday. Investigators were waiting to interview the woman to get more details, said Cpl. Kevin Costello, a spokesman for the Howard County Police Department.

Officers knocked on residents' doors Saturday and asked them whether they had seen any suspicious people in the neighborhood.

The assault occurred about 7:30 p.m. Friday. The victim had parked outside her home in the 7300 block of Kerry Hill Court in Columbia's Owen Brown village when a man grabbed her, forced her into her car and made her drive to a secluded area.

He sexually assaulted her, stabbed her in the back of the head and neck, then ran from the vehicle, police said. The woman was able to drive her car back to her home and call for help.

Police said anyone with information should call the Howard County police at 313-2220.
