Columbia woman charged with drug violations

Howard County drug detectives charged a Columbia woman with drug violations Friday night after searching her home, Howard County police said.

About 8:45 p.m. Friday, detectives with a search warrant found hand-rolled marijuana cigarettes, a plastic bag containing a quarter-ounce of marijuana, a small, brown wooden novelty pipe containing marijuana residue and one pack of rolling papers in a home, police said.

Beth Ann Jackson, 47, of the 9500 block of Battler Court in Columbia's Oakland Mills village was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. She was released on personal recognizance Friday, a District Court commissioner said.

Columbia grocery store robbed by armed man

An armed man robbed a Columbia grocery store Friday afternoon two hours after he bought candy there, Howard County police said.

No one was injured in the 5:50 p.m. robbery at the Dana Mandi grocery store in the 9000 block of Red Branch Road, police said.

A man in a black ski mask charged the counter at the store in Columbia's Long Reach village, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money, police said.

The clerk turned over an undisclosed amount of cash from the register, and the robber took the money and ran, police said.

The robber was described as a light-skinned black man, 18 to 20 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and wearing blue jeans. The clerk recognized the man as a customer who had bought candy earlier in the day, police said.

Anyone with information should call Howard County police at 313-2220.
