Morris Long, school band director, dies

Morris Long, a widely respected band director at Severna Park Middle School for more than two decades, died of bone cancer yesterday morning at his Severna Park home. He was 50.

Mr. Long led the school's concert band for 22 years and was regarded as an intense teacher who demanded a lot from his students. He was also remembered for his willingness to praise students.

"He was certainly dedicated to music," said Principal Judy Jenkins, who knew Mr. Long for a year before he retired in February.

Funeral arrangements were incomplete, Angel Jones, Mr. Long's sister, said.

Glen Burnie man arrested on a disorderly charge

Police arrested a Glen Burnie man Wednesday on a disorderly charge after he yelled at an officer, county police said.

Officer Stephen Moody went to the McDonald's in the 500 block of Ritchie Highway in Severna Park after a complaint about a drunken man shortly after 7:30 p.m.

When police arrived, the man yelled, made an offensive gesture and screamed obscenities at Officer Moody, police said.

Donald Edward Williams, 60, of the 7600 block of Spencer Road, was charged with disorderly intoxication.

Severna Park man inducted into Community Corps

J. McClellan has been inducted into AmeriCorps' National Civilian Community Corps at the Charleston Naval Base, Charleston, S.C., after training.

Mr. McClellan is the son of Joseph G. and Janet L. McClellan of Severna Park and a 1992 graduate of Severna Park High School.
