In the blizzard of '96

January 19, 1996|By Clarinda Harriss

It snowed and snowed

till there was no way

to get anywhere

and nowhere to go.

@I let my room fill up

with books and paper and pens.

I read 5 novels two dozen stories

50 magazines

and wrote 2 small poems.

I knotted my hair

into two tight braids

and contemplated

never combing it again.

I was invited to cook their

dinners

by several nice men.

No, too tired from shoveling

snow

I told each of them.

Then I stayed up later

than if I'd been with them.

I was as happy

as I've ever been.
