Monmouth gets past Mount, 82-77

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Monmouth, powered by three 20-point scorers, defeated Mount St. Mary's, 82-77, last night in a Northeast Conference game.

Chris McGuthrie scored 36 points for Mount St. Mary's, but it was not enough to prevent the Mount from taking its second straight conference loss.

The Mountaineers (6-6, 2-2) built a 31-19 lead in the first half on the strength of six three-pointers from McGuthrie. The Hawks DTC (8-5, 5-0) pulled even by halftime, however, going into the locker room with a 36-36 tie on the strength of 16 points inside by Corey Albano.

John Giraldo scored 23 points to lead Monmouth, 17 of them in the second half.

MOUNT ST. MARYS -- Harden 2-3 0-0 4, Balistrere 0-3 1-2 1, Van Dorpe 2-9 0-0 4, Inge 8-14 0-0 19, McGuthrie 13-28 1-1 36, Cheung 5-10 0-0 13. Totals 30-67 2-3 77.
