Robert Houck receives U-Save vice presidency

U-Save Auto Rental, headquartered in Hanover, announced the appointment of Robert C. Houck to vice president of franchise operations. He joined the company as director of support services in 1994. Before that, he was an external training consultant for Ford Motor Co. and managed franchises for the Dollar, Thrifty and Budget chains of vehicle-rental agencies. Bethlehem Steel has selected John P. Eckstein for the new postion of customer engineer manager at its Sparrows Point division. He holds a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a master's degree in finance from Loyola College. The Sparks resident has been with the steel giant since 1968. Before receiving this appointment, he was a senior products applications engineer. Taneytown Bank & Trust announced that G. Michael Brown joined the Carroll County-based financial institution as a vice president and commercial calling officer and will have responsibility for the development of new business. The Carroll County native is a graduate of Salisbury State. He was formerly a senior vice president with Sequoia National Bank.

Signet Bank has promoted Linda Sherrod Kent as operations officer. With the bank since 1977, she will have among her responsibilities the foreign exchange operations.

Ava E. Lias-Booker joins Gordon, Feinblatt

Gordon, Feinblatt, Rothman, Hoffberger & Holland, a Baltimore law firm, announced that Ava E. Lias-Booker joined as a member of the firm in the litigation department. A graduate of the University of Maryland law school, she is active in a number of professional organizations and bar associations, sitting on the advisory committee of the American Bar Association and on the board of governors of the Maryland Federal Bar Association. The Baltimore resident was a 1994 honoree of the Alliance of Black Women Attorneys.

Charlestown Retirement Community named Carol Woodland clinical supervisor of the home health department. Ms. Woodland previously served as assistant director of nursing in Charlestown's 270-bed Care Center.

She also worked as orthopedic nurse manager of the acute orthopedic unit at Kernan Hospital and as director of nursing at the Baptist Home of Maryland/Delaware.

Liberty Health System appoints Powell, McDaniel

Liberty Health System Inc. named Curtis N. Powell vice president for human resource development. Before joining Liberty, Mr. Powell directed human resources programs at Bowie State University and the University of Maryland Baltimore County.

Listed in Who's Who in International Human Resources, he was recently elected chapter management chairperson for the Maryland Healthcare Human Resources Association.

The Northwest area health facility also appointed R. Donald McDaniel Jr. vice president of managed care operations. He was formerly a partner of the Health Care Consulting Group, and is a member of the Medical Group Management Association.
