Angels: Agreed to terms with P Jim Abbott on three-year contract.

Astros: Signed C Eric Christopherson to minor-league contract and invited him to spring training.

Athletics: Traded P Todd Stottlemyre to Cardinals for P Bret Wagner, P Jay Witasick (Bel Air, UMBC), P Carl Dale and OF Allen Battle. Triple-A Edmonton retained manager Gary Jones, pitching coach Pete Richert and coach Orv Franchuk. Named Jim Colborn manager of Single-A Modesto, Mike Quade manager of Single-A West Michigan and Gil Patterson minor-league pitching coordinator.

Blue Jays: Outrighted P Jimmy Rogers to Triple-A Syracuse.

Cardinals: Agreed to $300,000, one-year deal with former Athletics 2B Mike Gallego.

Giants: Designated P Chris Hook for assignment. Purchased contract of P Dan Peltier from St. Paul of the independent Northern League.

Padres: Named former Orioles executive Eddie Epstein director of baseball operations, Priscilla Oppenheimer director of minor-league operations and Rene Mons assistant director of scouting and player development. Agreed to terms with P Rob Murphy and P Scott Lewis on minor-league contracts.

Phillies: Agreed to terms with free-agent P Dave Leiper, who had been with Expos, on minor-league contract.

Rangers: Re-signed free-agent IF Mike Pagliarulo, a former Oriole, to a minor-league contract with Triple-A Oklahoma City and invited him to spring training. Free-agent IF Rene Gonzales, a former Oriole, agreed to minor-league contract.

Reds: Acquired OF Mike Kelly (.190 in 97 games) from Braves for Double-A P Chad Fox and player to be named.

Tigers: Named Darrell Rodgers director of baseball administration. Invited P Scott Aldred, P Mike Drumright, P Tim Fortugno, P Cade Gaspar, P Brian Powell, P A. J.
