1994 Domaine Valette Macon-Chaintre ($13.49)

Wine of the week

January 10, 1996|By Michael Dresser

Here's a rare white Burgundy that delivers first-class flavor and intensity at a reasonable price. This medium-bodied, toasty, well-rounded wine offers intriguing flavors of nuts, banana, pear and lemon without any undue emphasis on a single component. It's not a dramatic wine but a complete, satisying chardonnay that would perfectly complement a salmon fillet. By the way, Domaine Valette is on a real hot streak. Well-heeled connoisseurs of white Burgundy should make a special effort to find its superb 1993 Pouilly-Fuisse Clos Reyssie Reserve Particuliere. It more than justifies the $30 price tag.
