Companies honored by Inc. to be recognized

The Howard County Economic Development Authority will hold a news conference and reception Tuesday to recognize Howard County firms among Inc. magazine's top 500 fastest-growing companies.

The event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the County Executive Board Room on the fifth floor of Gateway Building, 6751 Gateway Drive in Columbia.

The businesses featured include Cosmopolitan, RWD Technologies, Green Spring Health Services and ComPro Systems, Inc. In addition, Corporate Express was runner-up for Inc.'s Entrepreneur of the Year award, and the company's founder and president, Jirka Rysavy, was profiled in the December issue.

Giardina gets post at Catholic Review

Theresa G. Giardina of Ellicott City has been named director of development and public relations for Catholic Review, the newspaper of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Ms. Giardina was director of public relations at Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville.

Dr. Lakhani named to Bon Secours job

Dr. Tasneem Lakhani has been appointed medical director of Bon Secours Nursing Care Center in Ellicott City.

Dr. Lakhani has been in private practice with Drs. Bob & Lakhani since 1985.

Dr. Lefkoff opens periodontics practice

Dr. Maureen H. Lefkoff has opened a periodontics practice at One Mall North, 10025 Governor Warfield Parkway in Columbia.

Dr. Lefkoff is a 1987 graduate of the West Virginia School of Dentistry and earned a periodontics certificate and master of science degree from Ohio State University in 1992. County Executive Charles I. Ecker will present his State of the County address from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Columbia Inn.

Tickets are $30 and $25. A $5 charge will be added for payment at the door.

Seminar Thursday on total compensation

The Howard County Network of the Suburban Maryland High Technology Council will discuss "Total Compensation in Technology Companies" from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at Howard Community College Technology Training Center, 6751 Gateway Drive in Columbia.

Zany Brainy offers software information

Zany Brainy, the multimedia educational superstore for children will present a series of free Parent's Software Info Nights at 7 p.m. Friday and Jan. 19 and 26.

Friday's program is for children ages 6 to 9, the one Jan. 19 is for children ages 9 to 12, and the one Jan. 26 is for the whole family.

Mays & Associates receives two awards

Mays & Associates, an advertising, marketing, design and public relations firm in Ellicott City, has received awards from the National Association of Home Builders' National Sales and Marketing Council.

The firm received two awards: for best black-and-white ad under one-half page for Region 18, which includes Maryland, Pennsylvania and Washington; and for best brochure under $150,000 for the same region.

Chamber luncheon to focus on sales

The Howard County Chamber of Commerce, 5560 Sterrett Place, will hold a brown bag lunch, "Successful Sales for the Nonsales Person" from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Nova Technology Services in Jessup has earned the designation of "A+ Authorized Service Center" by the Computing Technology Industry Association.

Nova is a computer services company specializing in network integration and maintenance support.

Horizon Health wins accreditation

Horizon Health & Rehabilitation has been awarded a three-year accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

Horizon provides outpatient medical rehabilitation for people with neurological, orthopedic and chronic pain disorders.

Pro-Load joins movers conference

Pro-Load in Columbia has joined the American Movers Conference, which is affiliated with the American Trucking Association.

The trade association makes rates, publishes tariffs and gathers data.

Careerscope offers interviewing workshop

Careerscope, 10025 Governor Warfield Parkway, will offer a workshop in advanced interviewing at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18.
