Man is guilty of threatening police officers

January 05, 1996

A 45-year-old New Windsor man pleaded guilty yesterday to two counts of assault with intent to murder two police officers he threatened with a rifle during a domestic dispute in July 1994.

In exchange for John Meredith Carter's guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to drop 14 other charges at sentencing, including assault and battery, violating a protective order and false imprisonment.

Prosecutors said they will seek two concurrent terms of eight years when Carter is sentenced April 3.
