Neighbor captures suspect after burglary at apartment

January 03, 1996

A Baltimore woman was arrested on burglary charges Saturday after a Brooklyn Park resident discovered her walking away from a broken window outside a neighbor's apartment carrying three cartons of cigarettes, county police said.

Ronald Walker, 25, told police he heard glass breaking shortly before 8 p.m. in the adjacent apartment in the 5800 block of Ritchie Highway. He said he walked outside to check and saw the woman with the cigarettes. A video cassette recorder was on the ground nearby, police said.

Mr. Walker stopped the woman and called police.

The woman told police that she and two friends decided to break into the apartment to steal items that they could pawn to raise money for another friend's bail.

She said a male friend kicked in the window, entered the apartment, took the VCR and handed her the cigarettes from inside. She told police the man and a woman friend drove away when Mr. Walker approached, police said.

Lynda Darnise Brown, 35, of the 800 block of Stoll St. in Brooklyn was charged with first-degree burglary, felony theft and giving police a false statement. She was being held yesterday on $8,500 bond.
