Man is struck by car while crossing highway

A 24-year-old Baltimore man was in fair condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center after he was struck by a car Saturday as he crossed Crain Highway, county police said.

Christopher Carol Chaney of the 2100 block of Eagle St. had parked on a lot on Crain Highway near Eighth Avenue and was running across the street when he was struck by a car driven by David K. Luber of the 800 block of Bentwillow Drive in Glen Burnie, police said.

Mr. Luber, 38, told police that Mr. Chaney stopped on the center line as if he were waiting for Mr. Luber to pass, but then stepped in front of the car. Mr. Luber said he could not avoid hitting him.
