Ministerial Alliance sponsoring concert, unity service on Jan. 7

THE MINISTERIAL Alliance in Brooklyn-Curtis Bay will sponsor a Christmas concert and Christian unity service at 4 p.m. Jan. 7 at St. John Lutheran Church, 226 Washburn Ave.

The program will include Christmas music featuring the voices of the Arundel Singers. An offering will be taken for the alliance's emergency assistance fund for the needy. After the concert, there will be a reception at St. John's social hall. Everyone is invited to attend.

St. John Lutheran reception

St. John Lutheran, 226 Washburn Ave., will not have Sunday school today. There will be one service, at 10 a.m., with Charles Frederick of the Community of St. Dysmas delivering the sermon. After the service, a reception featuring Christmas cookies and sandwiches will be held in the social hall. Those attending are asked to bring holiday treats to share.

* The church's worship committee will hold a potluck dinner and Vespers, starting at 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Participants should bring a favorite food to share at dinner and plan to stay for the evening prayer (Vespers) at 7:15 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Country line dance lessons

The Worship Committee of Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Ave., will sponsor lessons in country line dancing from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. weekly, beginning Thursday in the church fellowship hall. The cost is $4 per session and includes refreshments.

Hospital seeks volunteers

Harbor Hospital's Adult Day Health Care is accepting referrals. The program provides long-term services for disabled adults and frail elderly people in a daytime, group setting.

* Start your new year right by helping others. Harbor Hospital is seeking volunteers to assist several departments. If you are an energetic individual who can make morning visits to patients' rooms to deliver newspapers, listen to patients' concerns and help supply information about hospital services, you are needed.

Volunteers also are sought to provide wheelchair transportation between departments and to make deliveries. For more information, call 347-3478.

Painting class

The Brooklyn Park Library Community Room, 1 E. 11th Ave., will be the home of a 10-week painting class for adults, starting Jan. 11. Classes will begin at 12:30 p.m. Registration is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays.

Police council installation

The January meeting of the Northern District Police Community Relations Council will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the district police station, 939 Hammonds Lane. Officers for 1996 will be installed.

They are: Delores Impalleria, president; Anna Bachman, vice president; Elizabeth Heldt, secretary; and Nancy Wroten, treasurer. The speaker will be Capt. Emerson Davis, who was recently promoted and assigned to the Northern District.

Schools reopen Tuesday

Anne Arundel public schools will reopen Tuesday.
