Christmas Eve services are scheduled today at churches in Brooklyn Park and Pumphrey.
St. John Lutheran Church, 226 Washburn Ave., is having a morning service at 10 a.m. The Sunday school will present a program, "In the Circle of God's Love." A family service of Holy Communion, with a children's sermon and handbells, is scheduled at 7 p.m. The 11 p.m. service is the Festival Service of Holy Communion with handbells and candlelighting.
Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Ave., Brooklyn, invites worshipers to a morning service at 11 a.m. Sunday as the Genesis Singers and the Youth Choir present the cantata "It's Christmas Again." Evening services are scheduled at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.. The church will hold another service at 10 a.m. Christmas Day.
Brooklyn United Methodist Church, Fourth Street and Pontiac Avenue, offers Sunday school at 9 a.m. Sunday and a worship service at 10:15 a.m. Two evening services will take place at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Line dancing lessons
Looking for something new to do in the new year? The Worship Committee of Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church will sponsor instruction in country line dancing beginning Jan. 4.
Lessons are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m Thursdays. The cost is $4 for each session and includes refreshments. Call the church office at 789-3688 for more information.
New Year's dance
New Year's Eve is right around the corner, and the Roland Terrace Democratic Club, 619 Matthews Ave., is throwing a New Year's Eve dance from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. Dec. 31.
The ticket price of $22 includes a hot and cold buffet, open bar and champagne toast at midnight. For information, call 789-3651 or 789-2013.
Library hours
The Brooklyn Park Library, 1 E. 11th Ave., will be closed Jan. 1 in observance of New Year's Day.
Service exchange
Partners in Care Inc., a service exchange program, provides occasional volunteer assistance such as transportation to medical appointments or grocery shopping for elderly people and disabled adults. The volunteers get credit for their hours and may exchange them for services they need or donate them to others.
Partners in Care operates a satellite office at Brooklyn Park Health Center in the 300 block of Hammonds Lane. For information, call 553-8054.
Diabetes study
Harbor Hospital Diabetes Center is seeking relatives of people with Type I (insulin-dependent) diabetes to participate in a study exploring whether insulin can prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.
Harbor is one of four Maryland hospitals selected as a screening site for the national study. If you want to help, call 347-2563.

Cheerleading tryout
