A Dayton woman was seriously injured early Friday when her car slid on a road in Ellicott City and slammed into a utility pole, Howard County police said.

Jennifer Kopec of the 5000 block of Ilex Way was in serious but stable condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she was being treated for head injuries, rescue officials said.

According to police and rescue officials, Ms. Kopec was driving west in the 12700 block of Folly Quarter Road near Glenelg Country High School about 1 a.m. when her 1993 Saturn lost traction on an icy patch of the road. She swerved off the road and her car's driver side crashed into a pole.
