Mount turns aside Howard, 74-57

EMMITTSBURG -- Chris McGuthrie scored 25 points and Gerben Van Dorpe added 18 points and five rebounds, leading Mount St. Mary's to a 74-57 victory over Howard last night.

Up 27-25 at halftime, Mount St. Mary's (2-2) pulled away from the Bison (0-6) in the second half, outscoring them 47-32 and shooting 17-for-28.

Jeff Balistrere scored 12 points for Mount St. Mary's. Phil Chenier (Mount Hebron) and Anthony Brown led Howard with 16 points each.

The Bison struggled in the second half, shooting 11 of 31.

It was the second straight victory for Mount St. Mary's, which defeated La Salle, 81-66, on Wednesday, their first win over the Explorers in 62 years.
