The Home Builders Association of Maryland handed out awards and installed officers for the coming year at its 76th annual banquet Wednesday at Martin's West in Woodlawn.
Dwight Griffith, the group's outgoing president and the head of Griffith-Brilhart Builders Inc. of Fallston, was named 1995 Builder of the Year.
Others honored were Vince Alcarese of GE Capital Modular Space, Associate of the Year; Karen Queen of Loyola Builder Group, Ambassador of the Year and Spike of the Year; and Chris Shigo, Sears Contract Sales, Hammer of the Year.
The 400 guests were also introduced to the Home Builders' 1996 officers:
John P. Martonick of Multi-Properties Inc., president.
John N. Bowers Jr. of Nottingham Properties Inc., first vice president.
Howard Saslow of Encore Homes Inc., vice president/treasurer.
Martin Azola of Azola & Associates Inc., vice president/secretary.
Larry Shannahan of Baltimore Gas & Electric Co., vice president/associate.
Council presidents for 1996 are P. J. Widerman, Apartment Builders and Owners; Carroll Brown Jr., Commercial Builders; Steve Koren, Land Development; Jay vanDeusen, Remodelors; Fritzie Hallock, Sales and Marketing.
Chapter presidents for next year are Ken Riegert, Annapolis; Chris May, Anne Arundel County; Joe Fonte, Baltimore; Ray Giudice, Baltimore County; Greg Dorsey, Carroll County; Ron Bunner, Cecil County; Lois Howard, Harford County; Steve Breeden, Howard County.
