December 07, 1995|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

PHILADELPHIA -- Guard Silas Cheung scored 15 points to lead Mount St. Mary's past La Salle, 81-66, last night.

It was the Mount's first win in the past five meetings with the Explorers, and the first since a 21-14 win in Emmitsburg on Jan. 6, 1933.

The Mountaineers (1-2) played patiently throughout a low-scoring first half during which La Salle (0-6) never led.

Cheung's 22-foot three-pointer at the first-half buzzer gave Mount St. Mary's a 38-22 halftime lead.

The lead never dropped below 13 in the second half.

Chris McGuthrie (13 points), Jeff Balistrere (11) and Shakur (10) joined Cheung in double figures.

Balistrere had a career-high nine assists.
