The Mountaineers (1-2) played patiently throughout a low-scoring first half during which La Salle (0-6) never led.
Cheung's 22-foot three-pointer at the first-half buzzer gave Mount St. Mary's a 38-22 halftime lead.
The lead never dropped below 13 in the second half.
Chris McGuthrie (13 points), Jeff Balistrere (11) and Shakur (10) joined Cheung in double figures.
Balistrere had a career-high nine assists.
