The Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association has received the prestigious 1995 Gold Service Award from Meetings And Conventions magazine.

BACVA won the honor in the convention bureau category, based on a poll of the magazine's readers -- meeting planners nationwide.

Selections were based upon overall professionalism and helpfulness of staff; advice on hotels and site inspections; transportation planning assistance; guidance on local attractions and facilities; and liaisons with local vendors and services.

The Gold Service award is the latest in a series of industry awards for BACVA. They include an award from the American Society of Association Executives for a video promoting the Baltimore Convention Center expansion and four consecutive annual Pinnacle Awards from Successful Meetings magazine for best overall convention bureau in the mid-Atlantic region.

Despite having much less marketing money than competitors, 10 months before completion of the center's expansion the convention bureau has booked 96 conventions and trade shows expected to pump $475 million into the local economy.
