Player of the Year
Lindsay Tanner, Fallston, junior, hitter: In her first year at Fallston after transferring from Pennsylvania, Tanner's skill and experience rejuvenated the Cougars and led them to their first playoff appearance. While averaging five kills, two blocks and five aces in the regular season, Tanner shone even more in the postseason. She averaged 11 kills and seven blocks in Fallston's three matches and totaled 64 points, including a perfect service game against Woodlawn in the quarterfinals.
Coach of the Year
Elaine Settelmaier, Fallston: In just her second coaching season since 1979, Settelmaier directed Fallston's turnaround from a 2-14 team in 1994 to a state semifinalist this year with a 13-5 record. She had a lot more talent and experience to work with this season and her 4-2 formation saw big results as the Cougars' finished 9-0 in the county. The biggest win came over C. Milton Wright and was the turning point in Fallston's charge to the county and 3A North regional titles.
Team at a glance
Katie Daino, Fallston, senior, setter: A two-year starter and co-captain, Daino was the Cougars' primary setter and averaged 12 assists a game.
Liz Donarum, John Carroll, senior, hitter: One of the Patriots' most improved players, Donaro, a four-year player, had her best season with 85 kills, 101 points, 28 aces and a .950 serve percentage.
Lindsay Guckert, North Harford, junior, hitter: Guckert, a repeat All-County selection and three-year starter, had a solid year with a 6.75 kills average and 144 successful serves.
Maureen Regan, C. Milton Wright, senior, setter: Regan was a leader on the floor, scoring 154 points and making 17 saves. She served at 95 percent.
Charlotte Wills, John Carroll, junior, setter: Wills was dependable as both a middle and back setter in the Patriots' unusual 5-1 formation. She totaled 225 assists and 66 points and had a serve percentage of .930 with 14 aces.
