Unseld leads Hopkins

Junior forward Wes Unseld scored 14 and grabbed seven rebounds as Johns Hopkins (3-1, 1-0) posted a 65-61 victory over visiting Swarthmore (1-3, 0-1) in a Centennial Conference men's college basketball opener last night.

* Messiah 78, Western Maryland 75: Host Messiah (2-2) went 8-for-8 from the foul line in the final 2:02 to top Western Maryland (2-2).

Women

* Western Maryland 87, College of Notre Dame 70: Erin Murphey (Francis Scott Key) scored a season-high 20 points to lead host Western Maryland (3-1) over College of Notre Dame (2-1). Emily Yanero (Mount Hebron) topped Notre Dame with 19 points.

* Johns Hopkins 70, Bryn Mawr 31: Sophomore forward Julie Anderson registered her fourth double double in as many games, with 14 points and 13 rebounds, as the Blue Jays (4-0, 2-0) beat visiting Bryn Mawr (1-3, 0-2) in a Centennial Conference game.
