Van search leads to arrest of man, girl

A Linthicum man and a 16-year-old girl were arrested Sunday after police found drugs and alcohol in the van they were in, county police said.

Officer James R. Haskell stopped a Chevrolet van after it pulled onto Route 648 without stopping from a Shell gas station at Camp Meade Road shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Officer Haskell smelled alcohol on tha man's breath and marijuana in the car, police said.

When asked about the marijuana, the driver said he had just dropped off some friends who had been smoking in the back of the van, police said. Officer Haskell also saw a wine cooler bottle between the front seats, police said.

The officer searched the van and found marijuana and an open container of beer, police said.

Wayne Phillip Richards Jr., 18, of the 400 block of Susan Court, was charged with possession of alcohol and possession of marijuana. The girl was charged with possession of alcohol and released into her parents' custody.
