Schneck leads Navy women to Tip-Off title

Junior captain Adria Schneck scored a game-high 21 points to power host Navy past Eastern Michigan, 76-69, in the final of the Navy Tip-Off Classic yesterday in women's college basketball.

Navy (2-0) is off to its best start since the 1988-89 season.

Sophomore forward Becky Dowling (18 points, 11 rebounds) earned the Most Valuable Player award, and Schneck and sophomore guard Jenny Thompson joined her on the all-tournament team.

* Bucknell 82, UMBC 49: Carrie Jones scored 14 points, leading four Bison in double figures, as host Bucknell (2-0) defeated UMBC (0-1) in a nonleague game at Davis Gym in Lewisburg, Pa.


* North Texas 82, UMBC 67: Chris Smith scored 25 and Chad Elstun hit four three-pointers, as North Texas (1-1) beat visiting UMBC (0-1) in Denton, Texas.

UMBC's Kevin Bellinger and Alhamisi Simms had 14 points apiece.

* Hampden-Sydney 87, St. Mary's 72: Bryan Sheridan scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Hampden-Sydney (3-0) past host St. Mary's.

St. Mary's (1-1) was led by Kenny Logan with 17 points and Barry Friedman, who scored 16.
