1995 All-Harford County field hockey team

Player of the Year

Katie Wirth, Fallston: A two-time All-County selection, the senior All-State center back dominated the middle with superior ball control and outstanding stickwork. She was the team's premier striker on corners and finished with six goals and five assists, as the Cougars reached a state final for the third successive year, losing to Centennial in overtime, 1-0.

Coach of the Year

Alice Puckett, Fallston: Puckett had to get the right mix of experienced seniors, reserves and sophomores. Backed by two straight state Class 2A championships, it was to Puckett's credit she kept her seniors focused, while blending in three sophomore starters. At the end, she saw her team come within 15 seconds of sharing the state Class 3A title.

First team at a glance

Becky Fox, Bel Air, senior, midfielder: A solid player with excellent skills and game sense, she had six goals and two assists for a regional semifinal team.

Carrie Grable, Fallston, senior, midfielder: Steady and dependable, she had three goals and four assists, including one of each in state semifinal victory.

Barbara Ordes, Fallston, senior, back: Puckett called her "an unsung hero." She combined skills and speed, particularly on corners.

Jen Reedy, C. M. Wright, sophomore, goalkeeper: She had a save percentage of 89 in making 156 stops, and had six shutouts, including two in the regionals.

Kim Rohrs, Joppatowne, junior, forward: She led the county runners-up in scoring with 19 goals and four assists. The team reached regional semifinals.

Christie Schwartz, C.M. Wright, senior, back: A defensive field .. leader, she had 182 steals, played in the Senior game, and was honorable-mention All-State.

Kate Simon, Fallston, sophomore, forward: She attacked with speed, stickwork, had skill as a cutter and aggressiveness, and got 10 goals and three assists.

Rachel Simon, Fallston, senior, midfielder: She was at her best in big games and recognized for dodges and her ability to stop the ball.

Lauren Sostrin, Fallston, senior, back: She stepped up to complement Ordes. A speedster, she combined tough, rugged play with solid ball-stopping skill.

Margo Stamenov, Bel Air, senior, back: She was the leader of the Bobcats' defense. Top team showings were a win over Dulaney and a tie with Centennial.

Honorable mention: Midfield -- Margy Gentile, Bel Air, senior. Back -- Kim Delich, John Carroll, senior; Kristin Kim, Havre de Grace, senior; Colleen Lueckel, C.M. Wright, senior; Shannon Martin, Bel Air, senior. Goalie -- Joy LaGreca, John Carroll, senior.

Picking the teams

The Baltimore Sun 1995 All-Harford County boys and girls soccer and field hockey teams were selected by John W. Stewart. Each team was selected through game observations and after consultation with area coaches.
