Mario Pino is hot.

The veteran Maryland jockey chalked up his fourth stakes victory in a row yesterday, guiding favored Blue Sky Princess to a nose victory over long shot Substantial in the $75,000 Anne Arundel Stakes at Laurel Park.

It was a hard-earned victory for Pino, winner of the Carousel (Hey Hazel), the Hail Emperor (Fireside Brass) and Maryland City (Higher Strata) within a week.

Blue Sky Princess was last after a half mile in the 1 1/8 -mile test, then got in gear at the head of the stretch and just managed to overhaul Substantial.

"When she runs, she gets down to business," said Pino of a filly who has earned nearly $250,000 this year. "She was within six lengths at the three-eighths pole and then dug in and got it."

Trainer Robin Graham had been concerned about the horse having had enough rest after running second in the Grade III Mount Washington Stakes, but concluded that, "This was the right amount of time for her.

"This has been a huge week for me -- the holiday, winning this race and tomorrow I'm being married."

Second-choice Blonde Actress, a New York-based filly, was third, a half-length back.
