Mount Airy man badly injured in truck crash

A Mount Airy man was in critical condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center last night after his truck struck a tree early yesterday.

George Frederick Jacobs Jr., 26, was driving west on Harrisville Road about 12:30 a.m. when he ran off the right side of the road and hit the tree, police said. The 1970 International truck Mr. Jacobs was driving came to a stop on an embankment.

Mr. Jacobs, who lives on Harrisville Road, was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

No charges were filed in the accident.

Memorial services tomorrow for Eva R. Salomon

Beth Shalom plans a memorial service tomorrow for Eva R. Salomon, a longtime member of the congregation who died Sunday at her home in Sykesville.

Mrs. Salomon, 94, the former director of social services at Springfield Hospital Center, was buried Monday in the congregation's cemetery in Taylorsville.

"We are asking friends and colleagues to participate and share their memories of Eva," said Rabbi Seymour Essrog, spiritual leader at Beth Shalom.

The service will be held at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the synagogue, 2020 Liberty Road. Information: 875-2800.

Mount Airy: Mount Airy assisted Frederick County on a fire alarm at 5:34 p.m. Tuesday. Units were out for 12 minutes.

Taylorsville: Winfield responded to a call about a child locked in a house in the 3400 block of Hooper Road at 10:04 a.m. Tuesday. Units were out for 24 minutes.
