Police arrested a man Tuesday and charged him with stealing men's clothes and a microwave oven from the Ames department store in Pasadena.

William Long, a security officer, told police he saw a man and a woman enter the store in the 8100 block of Ritchie Highway shortly before 5:30 p.m., pushing a shopping cart. The couple put several pieces of men's clothing in the cart, police said.

When the cart was full, the couple was joined by a second man, and the trio pushed the cart near the jewelry counter and abandoned it, police said.

The first man and the woman went to a cash register to pay for a smaller item, while the second man left the store. The two men returned to the cart, filled with more than $500 in merchandise, and pushed it outside, police said.

Mr. Long caught the first man and held him for police, officers said, but the other man and the woman got away.

Anthony Wayne Zantt, 35, of the 7800 block of Willing Court in Pasadena was charged with felony theft.
