He prays for a promotion

To the executive suite;

He gets a drunken driver

Missing him by inches.

She prays for the strength

To lose five pounds;

She gets a heartfelt letter

From a long-lost friend.

They pray for the world

To take note of their talent;

They get a day with their children

Filled with laughter and trust.

They pray for the trivial,

They get the wondrous,

Yet they ask

Why weren't our prayers
