Elderly woman killed in car-truck collision Driving through red light blamed for accident

An 84-year-old woman was killed after she drove her car through a red light and it was hit by a pick-up truck Saturday afternoon in Mount Airy, state police said.

Alice Gertrude Johnson of Mount Airy was pronounced dead at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore shortly after the 2:30 p.m. crash. She was flown to the center by helicopter.

The driver of the Toyota truck, Lloyd O'Neil Fox of Mount Airy, was not injured.

Mr. O'Neil was driving south on Route 27 when his vehicle struck Ms. Johnson's Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera at the Park Avenue intersection as she ran the red light, state police said.
