SAN FRANCISCO -- Another miracle of modern medicine: Steve Young could get some playing time as the backup quarterback in Miami tomorrow night, a week after the 1994 NFL MVP had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder.
"He threw the ball well. He threw the ball deep. If he keeps going the way he's going, then he's going to have to play into the mix," coach George Seifert said after watching Young in practice Friday. "I've said before that he wouldn't play in this game, and while I wouldn't change who's going to start [Elvis Grbac], I wouldn't rule out the fact that Steve could be available" as the No. 2 quarterback.
