Age: 17

Lauren, a senior at Glenelg, has a 4.0 grade point average. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years.

A Maryland Distinguished Scholar semifinalist, Lauren is a member of the Glenelg Speech and Debate Team. She has competed in the Baltimore Catholic Forensic League tournaments and the Howard County Community College Speech Competition, where she took second place in persuasive speaking the past two years.

Outside school, Lauren has been a member of the Centaurs 4-H club for eight years. She has also has been vice president and reporter for the club.

Lauren also is an equestrian, riding and competing in shows at Maple Spring Farm in Glenelg.

She plays piano and has taken private lessons for six years.

Lauren's parents are Jeffrey and Diane Brown. She has a 15-year-old brother, Doug.

Plans: Lauren said she is undecided about what her major will be when she attends college. Her career interests are varied and include possibly becoming a corporate lawyer, architect or chef. Lauren is considering attending Amherst College, Skidmore College and others in New England.

Her comments: "Riding is my ultimate enjoyment. If I have any time left over from school or work, that is what I like to do."
