Francis Brown, 91, editor of The New York Times Review of Books from 1949 to 1971, died of an undisclosed cause Friday in Brunswick, Maine. Under Mr. Brown, the Book Review attained a circulation of more than 1.4 million copies a week, making it the most widely distributed literary journal in the country.
