Faith United Methodist Church set to open its Country Kitchen

SOUP'S ON tomorrow at Faith United Methodist Church's Country Kitchen, open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Diners can choose homemade chicken, bean, crab, potato, shrimp or vegetable soup. Carryouts, bulk soup orders and limited delivery in the immediate area are available.

Holiday crafts and baked goods will also be sold.

The church is on Duvall Highway near High Point Elementary School. For orders or more information, call 437-8515.

Breakfast at church

Saturday morning from 7 to 10:30 is all-you-can-eat breakfast time at Magothy Chelsea Community Lutheran Church.

The cost is $4 for adults and $2.50 for children ages 4 to 11. Youngsters 3 and younger can eat for free.

The breakfast is co-sponsored by the Ladies Guild and the Aid Association for Lutherans, Branch 9017.

Proceeds will benefit the narthex repair fund.

Congressman to speak

The Pasadena Business Association will have next month's meeting at noon Dec. 6 at the Maryland Yacht Club.

The luncheon speaker will be Republican Rep. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. of Maryland's 2nd District.

Tickets cost $10 for association members with reservations, $15 at the door.

Gifted-student sessions

School counselor Carolyn Keenen will offer two workshops concerning the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) programs open to academically gifted students.

Parents may have their children evaluated by the CTY if the youngsters have demonstrated advanced aptitude in verbal or mathematical reasoning; perform exceptionally well in academically demanding course work; and consistently perform in the top 3 percent of his or her age group, Ms. Keenen said.

Students take a screening test and the College Ability Test (SCAT) for grades two to four or a similar test for grades five to six, administered by CTY staff.

Information sessions are scheduled at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Fort Smallwood Elementary School guidance office or at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Lake Shore Elementary School.

Wreath-making workshop

Just in time for holiday decorating, Downs Park has scheduled its annual wreath-making workshop at 10 a.m. Dec. 8.

The program fee is $10 and includes all supplies.

"If you have any special bows or decorations that you would like to put on your wreath, feel free to bring them with you," said Ranger Sharon DeVault.
