A masked, armed man robbed a family-run mail-and-shipping store in east Columbia Wednesday afternoon, fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash, Howard County police said.

The gunman ordered Carole Sabia, 51, of Monkton and her daughter Lisa Canter, 28, of Bel Air to lie on the floor as he took money from the cash register at Mail Plus at Snowden River Center, police said.

Ms. Sabia and Ms. Canter were the only people in the store in the small strip mall in the 9300 block of Snowden River Parkway in Columbia's Owen Brown village. They were not injured and declined to talk about the robbery yesterday.

Police were seeking the robber, described as a white man in his mid-20s or 30s, 5 feet 11 inches tall, with a thin build and weighing about 180 pounds. He wore a red, hooded sweat shirt and was armed with a dark-colored handgun, police said.
