Fire official named deputy for operations

Nelson A. Pyle, who has been acting deputy chief of fire nTC operations in the county Fire Department for nearly two years, was promoted to deputy chief yesterday.

County Executive John G. Gary made the promotion official in a ceremony at the Arundel Center in Annapolis.

Mr. Pyle, 49, of Glen Burnie oversees the suppression and communications divisions of the department, which has 29 stations, more than 400 employees and an annual operating budget of more than $27 million, fire officials said.

Mr. Pyle holds the highest level of professional certification as a fire officer, according to a state qualifications board.
