Woman, 51, is robbed while walking to car

A 51-year-old woman was robbed of her purse near Columbia's Hickory Ridge Village Center Sunday, Howard County police said.

The woman was walking to her car in the 6400 block of Freetown Road shortly after 3 p.m. when a young man ran from behind and grabbed her purse. He continued running on Freetown Road toward a Mobil gas station, where he was joined by two other young men. The three ran toward a wooded area across the road.

The robber was described as a stocky black man in his late teens, 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing a baggy, gray sweat suit.

The other two men were described as black, thin, in their late teens and between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 10 inches tall. One was wearing a large, black puffy coat and a stocking cap. The other wore a red jacket.
