November 13, 1995|By STAFF REPORT

A man who was shot by police after allegedly pointing a handgun at two officers on an East Baltimore street died last night at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The officers said they were responding to a complaint of drug activity about 10 p.m. Friday at Preston and Ensor streets.

Two suspects ran, officers said, but one turned and pointed a gun at them.

The suspect, Samuel G. McIver, was hit at least twice in the chest and had been in critical condition since his admission to the hospital.

Police said they recovered a loaded .22-caliber handgun he was carrying.

The two tactical officers who fired at the suspect -- Daniel Rose, 28, and Robert Taylor, 26 -- have been assigned to administrative duties during a departmental review, a police spokesman said.
