Cramer scores to lift Garrison to 'A' title AIS field hockey

November 12, 1995|By FROM STAFF REPORTS

Garrison Forest's Learic Cramer could not have picked a better moment to score her only goal of the season.

With eight minutes left in yesterday's AIS A Division championship, Cramer punched in a crossing pass from Tricia Ward to give the No. 9 Grizzlies a 1-0 victory over No. 8 St. Paul's. It was Garrison Forest's second straight title.

On a penalty corner, Cramer waited on the right side while her teammates tried to set up a shot on the left. St. Paul's keeper Gretchen Goldberg moved to the left, expecting the shot from Courtney Austin, but Austin sent it to Ward, who spotted Cramer open on the other side.

For the Grizzlies (8-0-5), this marks a second straight unbeaten season as well as the fifth title in 13 years for 1994 All-Metro Co-Coach of the Year Micul Ann Morse.

"I was really proud of them, because St. Paul's put a lot of pressure on them in the second half," said Morse. "Each team had a number of really good chances."
