Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes in Baltimore city and county.

Northwestern District

Robbery: A man was walking near his home Wednesday in the 4200 block of Fernhill Ave. when a gunman robbed him of $300 in cash and property.

Northern District

Bank robbery: A man robbed the Roland Park branch of the Mercantile Safe-Deposit and Trust Bank in the 5100 block of Roland Ave. on Wednesday of an undisclosed sum. After giving a teller a note saying he was armed, the man was given money that included an exploding dye pack that apparently failed to detonate outside the bank.

Robbery: A driver for Office Depot was at a fast-food restaurant in the 5000 block of York Road yesterday when two men forced him at gunpoint into the back of the truck and stole computer equipment valued at $6,000.

Burglary: A cassette player valued at $300 was stolen Tuesday from an apartment in the 100 block of W. University Parkway by someone who entered through a bedroom window.

Western District

Carjacking: A Silver Spring motorist was in the 900 block of N. Gilmor St. on Wednesday when two men, one with a handgun, forced him out of his blue 1991 Toyota with tags GPW 264.

Burglary/arrest: A man was attempting to remove copper piping in a vacant house in the 1100 block of N. Carey St. on Wednesday when police arrived and arrested him. Burglary and theft charges were pending against a 35-year-old resident of the 2400 block of E. Monument St.

Southwestern District

Student arrested: A 16-year-old student at Southwestern High School in the 200 block of Font Hill Ave. was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of a deadly weapon. City and school police responding to a fight on an MTA bus near the school arrested the student after he attempted to flee. Police recovered a .38-caliber revolver from the youth.

Northeastern District

Burglary: Someone entered a house in the 1700 block of Windemere Ave. on Wednesday and stole a 35mm camera, clothing and an electric drill, all valued at more than $1,000.

Essex Precinct

Cab holdup: A driver for Atwater cab was robbed at knifepoint of $70 Wednesday at Sue Creek Road and Sue Avenue near Chesapeake High School by a passenger he picked up.

North Point Precinct

Rape/arrest: Police were holding a suspect pending charges that he raped a woman Tuesday in a house in the 600 block of New Pittsburgh Ave.

For the record

Arrest: David Franklin Bates, 16, of the 1500 block of Byrd St. was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the Nov. 2 fatal shooting in Federal Hill of Daniel Edward Fawley, 38, of Morrell Park. Two other teens, ages 16 and 17, were arrested the day after the slaying.

Identified: A woman found dead in a suitcase in the 200 block of N. Patterson Park Ave. in Southeast Baltimore on Oct. 20 has been identified through fingerprints as Thomasina Johnson, 39, police said yesterday. Ms. Johnson was alleged to have been killed while fighting with her boyfriend, Kelvin Angelo Blount, 39 of the 200 block of S. Maderia St., who was charged with first-degree murder.

Suicide: A robbery suspect found dead in a trash bin Tuesday after a gunfight with city and housing authority police died from a self-inflicted wound, authorities said yesterday. The determination was made by test-firing guns and a review of the autopsy on the body of Brian Cosby, 23, which also was hit twice by police bullets, police said. He was on bail on a charge of attempted murder. Police said he shot himself in the head with his .44-caliber Desert Eagle handgun.
