Glen Burnie sweeps past Queen Anne's

No. 12 Glen Burnie (12-4) used strong serving from Amy Hutson (15-for-17) and Stacey Ellenberger (14-for-14) to sweep host Queen Anne's, 15-8, 15-6, 15-10, in a 4A East regional semifinal match. Hutson and Ellenberger also combined for nine aces, 19 kills and six blocks.

* Centennial 3, Broadneck 0: Meredith Price had 13 kills and Jennifer Climm had 22 assists, as host and No. 2 Centennial (19-2) beat No. 13 Broadneck (7-5), 15-3, 15-5, 15-2 in a state Class 3A East region semifinal.

The Eagles advance to the region final tomorrow when they will play host to Mount Hebron, which defeated Howard yesterday, 11-15, 15-1, 15-3, 15-10.

* Glenelg 3, Oakland Mills 0: Elisa Davidson had 10 kills and Carol Franklin added six aces and three kills as No. 4 Glenelg (14-4) swept host Wilde Lake (1-16), 15-10, 15-5, 15-1, in a Class 2A South region semifinal. Glenelg will play host to Oakland Mills in tomorrow's region championship.

* Key 3, Catoctin 0: After a long first game, No. 8 Francis Scott Key (16-0) cruised over Catoctin and advanced to tomorrow's Class 1A South region championship against Smithsburg or Boonsboro. Cindy Sheedy had a perfect serving night, going 12-for-12 in the 15-10, 15-2, 15-4 victory.

* Oakland Mills 3, Hammond 1: Carolina Michniewicz had 13 kills and Lisa Scaggs chipped in with 11 as Oakland Mills (9-9) defeated Hammond, 15-12, 10-15, 15-4, 15-12.

Jean Haverstick had 24 assists for the Scorpions.
