Dorothea Kernan, 83, nurse, Baltimore native

Dorothea Kernan, 83, a retired nurse who had worked at what is now the Mercy Medical Center, died Tuesday of respiratory illness at a hospital in Memphis, Tenn., where she had lived since the early 1950s.

A Mass of Christian burial for the former Dorothea Krug, a Baltimore native, will be offered today in Memphis.

Her husband, Martin H. Kernan Sr., died in 1971.

She is survived by two sons, Martin H. Kernan of Bartlett, Tenn., and Fred G. Kernan of Mountain Home, Ark.; a brother, George H. Krug Jr. of Houston; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Dorothy B. Rice, 88, who had lived in the Baltimore area until 1985, died Sunday of heart failure at a nursing home in Longview, Texas.

Services for the former Dorothy B. Myers, a native of Baltimore, will be held today in Longview.

Her husband, Franklin C. Rice, died in 1957. She is survived by three daughters, Vivien Sauter of Baltimore, Pat Farkas of Longview and Barbara Robards of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; two sons, Charles Rice of Spring Lake, N.C., and David Rice of Omaha, Neb.; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
