Two 16-year-old Crofton boys have been charged as adults in an assault on a 15-year-old Annapolis resident who was trick-or-treating with friends in Crofton on Halloween, Crofton police said.

Dennis Gills and James Lazarro, both of Jason Court in Blue Ridge at Crofton Meadows, were placed under house arrest yesterday after turning themselves in to Crofton police at Town Hall Monday night.

The victim, who police refused to identify, was tackled about 8:30 p.m. Halloween night by two people wearing masks and football jerseys as he went trick-or-treat

ing with friends in the 1400 block of Crofton Parkway, said Chief Deborah Bogush.

One of the boy's legs was broken in the attack.

The suspects fled, and the boy's mother drove him to Anne Arundel Medical Center. Later that night, she reported the incident to Crofton police, the chief said.

The teen-agers are charged with assault with intent to maim, assault and battery, and attempted robbery for allegedly trying to steal the boy's candy. They are allowed to go to school and to work until a preliminary hearing scheduled for Dec. 1, an Anne Arundel District Court clerk said.
