South Carroll High Cavaliers band wins top award at competition

The South Carroll High School Cavaliers Marching Band took first place in Group 2 bands at the Chapter 13 Championships Tournament of Bands competition Saturday in Hedgesville, W.Va.

The Cavaliers scored 90.85 and won best drum major, best percussion and best music. Group 2 bands have 36 to 55 musicians. Ten bands competed.

South Carroll's final scheduled competition is the Atlantic Coast Championship tournament in Scranton, Pa., Sunday.

Fire

Mount Airy: Mount Airy responded to a chimney fire in the 1100 block of Shaffersville Road in Howard County at 10:07 Saturday. Units were out for 31 minutes.

Mount Airy: Mount Airy responded to a freezer fire in a house in the 100 block of Village Gate Drive in Frederick County at 10:23 p.m. Friday. Units were out for 20 minutes.

Taylorsville: Winfield responded to a fire alarm in the 2200 block of Taylorsville Terrace at 7:52 a.m. Sunday. Units were out for eight minutes.
